Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour in Stratford-Upon-Avon

Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour in Stratford-Upon-Avon

What better way to see Stratford-Upon-Avon than in an open top bus?

As well as the home of Britain's most famous playwright William Shakespeare and the world famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford is great for a day on the River and then chilling out in the evening in one of the many chic restaurants and bars in the centre of Town.

Travel to all the Shakespearean Houses: Shakespeare's Birthplace, Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Mary Arden's House, New Place, Nash's House and Hall's Croft. See the Royal Shakespeare Theatre where the Bard's plays are performed for the majority of the year. You can also visit the Holy Trinity Church where Shakespeare is buried, protected by a cursed tombstone...and the old 15th century grammar school where Shakespeare was educated. You'll enjoy a lovely tour through the scenic Warwickshire countryside, visiting Wilmcote - the village where Mary Arden's House (Shakespeare's mother) is found.

Your ticket is valid for 24 hours, so that you can use the tour buses to travel from one attraction to another, or back to your hotel, the Railway Station, or your coach or car park.

Tour Highlights

~ Shakespeare's Birthplace - Possibly the most famous and most visited literary landmark in Britain. This is the house where it is thought that Shakespeare was born and spent his formative years. The house originally belonged to William Shakespeare's father John, who became a successful Stratford businessman. John & Mary Shakespeare moved from nearby Snitterfield to Stratford in 1529, shortly after getting married. It is known from Stratford records that the Shakespeare family were residing in Henley street by 1552 and that William Shakespeare was born in 1564.

~ Anne Hathaway's Cottage - The description of "cottage" does not do justice to the Hathaway home, which was actually a substantial twelve room Elizabethan farmhouse, the lower part built in the early 1460's and subsequently extended in about 1623. The cottage remained in the Hathaway family until 1892, when it was bought along with some furnishings by the Birthplace Trust, which restored it to its original character.

~ Nash's House - New Place in Chapel Street was William Shakespeare's final retirement home. He purchased the impressive building for £60 in 1597, whilst he was still spending most of his time working in London. He finally settled at New Place in 1610. Built by Hugh Clopton it was the second largest building in Stratford and was the only house made from brick.
